Fine hair, medium amount, shoulder length hair (without extensions), coloured blonde (peroxide), upper ear piercings.
N/A allergies or medication
N/A contraindications
- Run a consultation with the client to find out their hair type, condition, if they have any allergies or taking medication that may affect the condition of the hair and any contraindications that will prevent you from touching the hair.
- If everything is clear then proceed with placing a towel around the clients front and a towel over the shoulders, secured at the front to protect the neck.
- While the client is in a laid back position, examine the hair for any further damage from over processing such as dry/split ends to judge how much shampoo/conditioner is needed. Also the amount of pressure applied to the hair when washing.
- Turn water on and adjust temperature to clients preference and test temperature on wrist (most sensitive area).
- Rinse the clients hair with warm water until thoroughly saturated. Avoid getting water on the face by cupping hand over the forehead and sides of the ears when using water towards the hairline
- Taking a small amount of shampoo (roughly 10p sized), work the product into the scalp and root of hair in a massaging circular motion. Do not rub the hair!
- Rinse the hair as above.
- Repeat stages 6&7.
- Taking conditioner (amount dependant upon condition of hair, thickness and length) work the product through the length of the hair, leaving the largest quantity at the ends.
- Using a wide toothed comb work through small sections of hair, root to tip to remove any knots or tangles.
- Once hair is knot free repeat step 5.
- Gently squeeze the hair length to remove excess water.
- Taking the towel around the shoulders, fold the sides over the head and the end over again to create a folded turban.
- Apply gentle pressure to the towel to remove excessive moisture.
The process of washing the hair was an experience that presented a few challenges mainly cupping around the ears and lower neck to avoid water spilling over the clients back. Also because my client had shorter hair especially around the nape of the neck, it was difficult to reach these areas to shampoo effectively and rinse, however this became easier after a little extra instruction and practise. Overall the process was not to complicated and could be repeated effectively if and when it is required.
